Welches Equipment spielt(e) Garry Gary Beers von INXS? Ich habe ihn mit einem Viersaiter JB und einem Viersaiter P-Bass (mit drei Potis - gibt es P-Bässe mit Aktivelektronik und 2-Band-EQ?) gesehen und habe etwas über ein Engagement with G&L gehört, hierzu aber noch keine Bilder gesehen. Sein Sound ist ja recht massiv und dennoch irgendwie funky, was also sind seine Effekte, was sein bevorzugter Amp? Ich würde auf kräftigen Kompressoreinsatz und einen massiven Amp tippen, außerdem spielt er wahrscheinlich mit Plektrum. Danke für sachdienliche Hinweise!

Update: Habe jetzt doch ein paar Bilder mit G&L-Bässen gesehen, außerdem eine Art Jaguar-Bass mit MM-Pickup und drei Potis. Also wohl überwiegend fenderartige Aktivbässe, und inzwischen habe ich Bilder gesehen, auf denen er teils mit Pick, teils mit Fingern spielt. Ich bin also nicht ganz taub Und who the f*** ist G.G.B. Basses?

An Amps habe ich jetzt einen großen Transistor-Ampeg mit einer Laney-Box gesehen, Laney-Amps mit einer ganzen Batterie kleiner Laney-Boxen (die sahen aus wie auf die Seite gelegte kleine PA-Topteile) und einen steinalten Peavey mit zwei Kanälen und großem EQ - den hatte mein Bruder mal, krass!

Update2: G.G.B. steht natürlich für Garry Gary Beers - seit 2018 stellt er Bässe her oder vermarktet sie zumindest. Nochmal krass. Und dreifach-facepalm, dass mir das nicht gleich aufgefallen ist.

Okay, kann jemand die Effekte auf dem Board identifizieren? Ich erkenne nur den BOSS Octaver, den Big Muff Pi und den SP Exotic Booster. Erkennt irgendjemand einen Kompressor auf diesem Brett?

Hey there- I just found this old thread lost in Google and so I signed up to answer if any one still would like to know how I got the What U Need bass sound. I used a Prophet 5 Synth on the record with a sound that Andrew Farriss and I came up with- We'd already used a similar sound on the One Thing a few years back combined with my then used Stingray fretless. Live I used a Steve Chick Midi bass for a while triggering the Prophet sound from an Akai Sampler- then I just simplified it to a P bass and a fuzz unit. If you look at the Wembley concert in What You Need the middle 8 I'm going to town with all the sampled parts I took from a What U Need remix by I think Fat Boy Slim- So all that stuff going on with the drums is me. Garry and the other guitarists have re-connected their endorsement deal with G&L, a company that loyally supported them in the past. He explains his current G&L bass and Ampeg amp set up. “I’m still using the old SVT’s and still got the boxes I designed for them almost twenty years ago … 1540’s like an HM box but with 15 in the bottom, so still got them and the big SVTs. As far as P Basses, I’m using G&L LB100’s and been using those live. I’ve got my old P Bass for the studio. I have a black LB100, I dropped it in the studio. I was telling someone how indestructable they are in the studio and I dropped it and broke the neck. But they replaced the neck and it just sings again.”

Danke sehr! Das ist ja echt unfassbar, der spielt mit den MOOERs in der Tat ein paar günstiger Treter. Aber der HB haut dem Fass dann doch den Boden aus, ich wusste gar nicht, dass man das Zeug in AU überhaupt bekommt.

Ich vermute mal, dass das die "Joyo"-gebrandete Variante ist, das Logo ist zwar kaum zu erkennen, sieht aber anders aus. Das HB-Teil ist ja im Prinzip nur ein umgelabeltes Joyo.

In der Tat, aber warum nicht? Vielleicht ein Pragmatiker ("es reicht, wenn's funktioniert"). Die Laney-Anlage ist ja auch nicht "Signature/ Boutique". Offensichtlich kann man mit Standard-Gear "Karriere" machen.
