Hallo!

zu allererst: dies soll kein thread à la "ich hab nen marshall mg-amp und ne keiper heavy strat, wie kling ich wie kirk hamment" oder ähnliches werden....

ich interessiere mich einfach nur so, für den sound dieser band, v.a. des gitarristen.

ich weiß, dass europe in ihrer bandgeschichte zwei guitareros hatten, einmal das gründungsmitglied john norum (welcher mitlerweile auch wieder mitspielt) und in der zeit von 86 bis 92 kee marcello...

da meine lieblingssongs in die zeit von kee marcello fallen (superstitious, more than meets the eye, etc.) würde mich mal interessieren was er so spielt, bzw. damals gespielt hat.

habe bei guitargeek.com leider nichts gefunden.

für eure hilfe wäre ich sehr dankbar!

On the Europe DVD your rig is startlingly sparse. A Les Paul Custom into a 50W JCM 800. What's the catch?

Yeah, it's a very simple setup. When I was in Dokken I used to have the refrigerator Bradshaw system like everyone else. I just got sick of carrying it around all the time. It weighed a ton. I just realized that I hardy used the effects in it anyway so I figured I don't need that junk. The only thing I have is a wha wha pedal and a stereo chorus. Actually I don't use the chorus anymore.

So it's sown to the Wah Wah?

Yeah, I use it a bit too much. I crack it open during solos to get that midrangy kind of tone. But I think I overused it on that gig. Sometimes when you get a little tired or stiff it actually helps get more sustain. So now I'm trying to stay away from it. So it's just a Crybaby and nothing else.

Didn't you use distortion pedals in the past to boost the gain?

Yeah. I used to use 100W Hiwatt amps in the old days, the 80's which I guess are the old days. I had a Boss Octaver. Chorus and an Ibanez analog delay pedal. It was that orange Boss distortion, the DS-1 because that's what Gary used back on Victims of The Future and Corridors of Power. That was one of my favorite sounds. I don't use much of that stuff anymore. I'm getting the overdrive from the amp now instead.

I also love your tone on Face the Truth but it seems like it doesn't really matter if you'\re playing strats or Les Paul's because it ends up sounding like you anyway.

Oh, thank you. Face the truth is the Soldano and a Marshall Guv'nor. That's all it is. No fancy business. The Dokken one is a 100W Marshall modified by Jose Arrendodo who modified Van Halen's amps. And a Strat that some Swedish guy made me which sounded really really good. The amps had so much gain that Eddie actually complained that those amps were too dirty for him. Billy White, the other guitar player in Dokken, an I got invited to his house in the Hollywood Hills one time. He wanted to check these amps out because that was the new mod at the time. So we went there with the Jose amps and we were so excited to be in 5150. We were just kids really, I was 24 or 25 and Billy was 21.

Ich war früher überzeugter EUROPE Fan, von daher kann ich Dir sagen, dass Key Marcello damals Larivée Gitarren in Kombination mit Kitty Hawk Amps spielte.
Larivée ist, soweit ich weiß, heutzutage hauptsächlich im Bereich Akustik-Gitarren tätig und Kitty Hawk Amps werden wohl nicht mehr hergestellt; man bekommt sie aber dann und wann noch günstig bei Ebay.

Kurz zusammengefasst



Auf der Europ-DVD (sehr empfehlesnwert!) erklärt er ausführlichst sein Equipment. ´

Gitarrentechnisch spielt er ausschließlich Les Pauls von Gibson aus diversen Jahrgängen.

Und amptechnisch 2 JCM800 zweikanaler mit 50W, aber statt den EL34 sind KT88 Röhren drin und darunter jeweils zwei boxen mit V30.

Effekttechnisch benutzt er eine delay und ein Wahwah. Den chorus nutzt er nur zum splitten des Signals hinter der Gitarre um damit auf die beiden amps zu gehen.

Der Sänger spielt im übrigen bei einigen Songs eine LP über einen amp aus der JCM2000 Serie.

In seinem Lehrvideo hat Kee Marcello eine ungewohnt aussehende Gibson SG mit Single-Coil am Hals im Einsatz, siehe z.B. YouTube - Kee Marcello - Intro Solo oder YouTube - Europe - Superstitious solo aber in diversen Live-Bootleg-Videos sieht man ihn tatsächlich mit Larrivée-Gitarren.
