Pip Pyle.. Mitbegründer und Schlagzeuger von Hatfield and the North, ausserdem Drummer von national Health und zeitweise Gong und bei vielen anderen Projekten beteiligt ist am 28. August 2006 in Paris gestorben, 2 Tage nach einem Hatfield Gig im holländischen Groningen. Er wurde grad mal 56 Jahre alt. 2006 ein aufbrausendes Jahr.. Syd Barrett..... rip....Pip Pyle... rip

"It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear friend and colleague Pip Pyle, who died in Paris in the early hours of August 28th 2006. Pip was a founder member and the driving force of Hatfield and the North, a unique musician, an extraordinary drummer and a larger-than-life personality. We will miss him terribly, and the music scene will be a duller, quieter place without him.

Pip's funeral will be held in England in a week or so (the date has not been fixed yet). Pip's children are planning to decorate Pip's coffin with the type of stickers he had on his drum cases, and have asked that if anyone has any Hatfield and the North, National Health, Gong, Chicken Shack, L'Equipe Out, Soft Heap, Bash!, Musicians' Union or 'Keep Music Live' (etc.) stickers they would like to donate, could they kindly send them now to the Funeral Directors:

Alternatively, bearing in mind that these stickers are often treasured possessions, you can scan them and send the image to Sam Ellidge at ellidge@bigfoot.com and Sam will make them into stickers. All submissions are welcome. Please feel free to send anything that tickles your fancy, however daft or irreverent - Pip had a wicked sense of humour and would have liked the idea of people having a bit of a laugh at his funeral.

bei youtube gibt's (man mag es makaber finden, aber eigentlich finde ich es vertretbar) ein video von hatfield and the north, wie sie auf der beerdigung von pip pyle spielen. ich finde, es ist ein würdevoller auftritt, der trotz aller melancholie irgendwie hoffungsvoll stimmt.
