Elka Synthex 2 Synthesizer First Look

Information has leaked out, via sequencer.de, on a new synth design, the Elka Synthex 2, from the creator of the original Synthex.
The Synthex 2 is designed by Mario Maggi, creator of the original Synthex. It is intended as a modern Synthex update and is not related to the recently announced Elka Synthex reissue. No details on availability and pricing have been announced, but here are the preliminary specifications.

Specifications:

• 16-voice polyphony // 8-voice upgradable version may also be produced

Versions

• with 61 notes keyboard
  Physical dimension more compact than in the previous version.
  Less weight. No fan (means compared to the Synthex!)
• keyboardless tabletop version (same control panel)
  1 Rack Unit expander without controls, w. PC dedicated editing software
  -> box desktop expander without controls, w. PC dedicated editing software (hmm I assume PC means Mac as well)

Keyboard

• High-quality 61 note keybed FATAR TP-8,
  weighted, with key velocity, channel aftertouch

Abgefahren: die 'Spielecke' mit Schneider's Buero und Co. Vor allem beeindruckend, dass sich hier die Jugend tummelt. Ich war immer der Meinung, dass das eher was für die jung gebliebenen 'Alten' ist.

Das trifft aber hauptsächlich auf Eurorack zu. Für die 'jung gebliebenen Alten' gibt's die größeren 5 HE Formate MOTM und MU (Moog Unit).

Bei Eurorack tut sich aber wesentlich mehr, da vergeht kaum ein Monat in dem es nicht 10 neue Module gibt (aktuell ja die von Roland). Vor allem halt innovativere Sachen wie spannungsgesteuerte Sampler, digitale VCOs, abgefahrene Delays, usw. und dann ist das Format noch wesentlich kleiner, teilweise günstiger und leichter verfügbar (z.B. halt bei Thomann & Music Store). Selbst im DIY-Bereich gibt es mittlerweile viel mehr auf Eurorack fokussierte Projekte (z.B. der Sonic Potions Quantizer).

Das Kranke beim Synthex ist doch, daß er dieses Jahr zweimal zurückkommt.

Einmal echtanalog mit Tasten und Curtis-Chips von Elkkäinen™ aus Finnland.

Und außerdem wohl virtuell-analog von Mario Maggi in Eigenregie mit doppelter Stimmanzahl (mmmmm, Stereoverteilung mit immer noch 8 Stimmen, lechz).

Ich rechne mit einem Shootout der Synthices™ (Original, Finne, Maggi) im SynMag noch dieses Jahr. Gab's ja auch schon mit der 303: TT-303 vs. Bassline 3 vs. x0xb0x vs. TB-3 vs. Original.

Danke - wieder was gelernt! ...jetzt ist mir auch klar, dass das 'Mini' im Produktnamen einfach auf die abgesüecktere Version verweist.
